Blocks so many blocks...

No real progress to report on the minis front.  However, I was able to visit a miniature gaming store about 1.5 hours away from me that I rarely get to go to.  I picked up a few things but I was mostly going to show a friend the store.  He offered to drive and pay for lunch so I could not refuse.  My biggest purchase was a new boardgame, Command and Colors Ancients from GMT.  I am interested in the ancients era and had heard good things about this game so with my friend's "encouragement" I bought it.  Below you can see a picture of the game out of box.

So last night and tonight have consisted of 'assembling' the game.  By assemble I mean putting the unit stickers on 345 small blocks and seven dice.  I finished the Roman units and now it is on to the Carthaginians.  I did read through the rules and it seems like it will be alot of fun, after I finish putting the stickers on that is.  :)

Adding to the pile...

A couple of weeks ago I found out about a little out of the way hobby store an hour from where I live.  I was in the area this past week and was able to stop by.  I was a disappointed with the miniatures selection.  The store contained mostly comics, boardgames, basic hobby supplies, and lots of trading card games.  However, just as I was about to leave I stumbled onto a rack in the back of the store containing random blister packs of minis.  They were all different companies and time periods but in the end I found two that I may be able to use.  And did I mention they were on clearance.

The first pack is just some sheep and a farmer.  I figure for my campaign I'll need to start collecting more civilian figures and animals.  The second pack are Celtic archers.  I've always liked archer units and plan on perhaps using them in my campaign as a mercenary band that Harlin hires or fights.

'Well, well, well'

I feel like I am on a roll.  Two weeks and two finished projects.  This week I finished up the second piece of terrain I picked up at 'Fall-In.'  This is Architects of War's 'Well Kit.'  Again another great terrain piece from Architects of War.  I've really enjoyed the quality of the items so far and will most likely be picking up some more from them in the coming year.

Here is the finished product.  The flash on the camera makes the stones look whiter then they really are.  The assembly was very easy, just glue the posts and buckets in place.  The hardest part was tying the tiny knots with the small string to the bucket.

Here we see our fearless heroes Harlin and Assur taking a break from adventuring to enjoy a nice cool drink from the well.

'Pig Poke'

A quick update today.  I finally got one of the terrain items painted that I picked up at 'Fall-In 2011'  This is the 'Pig Poke' from Architects of War.  I think it will go well in my current fantasy campaign as well as with WWII gaming.

Its a great model and was fun to paint up.  Although as usual I struggled painting weathered wood.  For some reason I just cannot get it to turn out very well.  It either comes out to brown or to grey.  If anyone has any tips of tricks on how to paint weathered wood I would appreciate it.
