Dark Age Fantasy Campaign: The Raid - AAR

When we last left Harlin, Assur and Dago they had withdrawn into the wilds around Greybridge and set up camp.  They had decided to stay hidden while Dago's wounds healed.  Once Dago had healed their thoughts turned to their dwindling supplies.  They remembered one of the local farmers and his family who had always been kind to the slaves especially Harlin and Assur.  They knew his house was less then a days journey away and decided to travel there and see if they could procure some much need supplies.

Harlin, Assur and Dago traveling through a new pine grove.  They come to the crest of the hill which looks out over the farmers house, orchard, and a small river.  However, they see something they did not expect.

Coming up the dirt road toward the house is Captain Thangdel and small band of his Greybridge militia cronies.

The farmer, Caster Hughson, calls to his wife and daughter and they meet him in front of the house just as the armed militia arrive.  Captain Thangdel also knew that Caster had been friendly towards his slaves and guessed that he would now be harboring Harlin and Assur after their escape.  In the background Harlin and his men quickly come down the hill to the river.

Harlin, Assur and Dago quickly cross the small river readying themselves to help Caster and his family as they know Captain Thangdel will show no mercy.

Captain Thangdel begins to question the family as to where they are hiding his slaves.  Meanwhile his men spread out to search while his archer keeps watch.

As one man searches the small orchard the other two go to the animal pen.

Dripping wet Harlin and his men finish crossing the river and move towards the animal pen running right into Captain Thangdel's militia.

Before anyone can react Assur sends an arrow straight into the heart of the axe wielding militia who collapses into the dirt.

As the second militia man rushes to his fallen comrade he is met by Harlin and the two stay locked in combat.  Meanwhile the militia archer and Captain Thengdel move to engage Harlin and his men while the farmer and his family flee into their house.  (Note the militia man's head who was checking out the orchard behind the house as he moves to fight)

Captain Thengdel and Dago meet with a loud clash of weapon against shield while Harlin is still locked in combat.  Assur shoots at the militia archer wounding him.  Seeing a chance farmer Caster charges the militia archer.  The final militia member rounds the side of the house and prepares to close in on Harlin from the rear.

Assur reacts quickly sending an arrow into the militia man who was charging Harlin from the back.  As that happens Captain Thengdel lands a killing blow on Dago as Harlin ends his opponents life.  The militia archer tries to get off a shot at the charging farmer but misses and barely deflects the blow dealt by Caster's pitch fork.

Captain Thengdel seeing his cronies falling one by one decides to do the 'noble' thing and run away not even stopping to help his archer.  Harlin moves up to help farmer Caster deal with the archer as Assur moves into position to get a shot at the fleeing militia Captain.

Harlin and farmer Caster make quick work of the archer.  Harlin then tries to pursue Captain Thengdel but realizes there is no hope of catching him.  Assur manages to get one final shot of at the militia Captain but the arrow narrowly misses him before he is out of range.

After burying the dead and collecting the weapons Harlin, Assur, Caster Hughson and his family gather to discuss what they will do next.

  1. Interesting chapter in the saga of Harlin, Assur, and Dago. The stone lined road and animal enclosure are very nice scenery items. Thanks.

  7. Nice report. The scenery, figures, everything looked really good. Too bad about the man at arms, sucks not to be the star.
