Christmas 2011 Loot!

Its the beginning of another year and everything is finally starting to settle down around here.  Unfortunately I have not been able to get started on any projects, so I thought I would show a couple things I got for the hobby on Christmas.  Actually, one my Christmas presents is the reason I have not started anything for the hobby but in a round about way it might actually give inspiration.  As many you know my main Christmas gift was family helping get the parts to build a computer and with a new computer what do you need?  A new computer game of course.  So I got The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim and that has been taking up most of the time I would normally spend on the hobby.  To justify this lack of attention towards the miniature hobby I just claim that it is research for my fantasy campaign (thats right I have not forgotten about it) since the game has a Nordic/Fantasy setting.  Truthfully it has given me some good terrain and scenario ideas.

That being said I did receive some gaming related items for the holidays as you can see above.  Starting in the bottom left hand corner and proceeding clockwise.  First is the new D&D Red Box set.  While I am not a fan of alot of magic I have been interested in RPGs of late and the Red Box is a great little intro to the genre.  Plus it has alot of tips and ideas for running a campaign that will be useful for my miniatures.  Sticking the the RPG theme I also got the 'GURPS Fourth Edition Fantasy' book.  This book is full of information and ideas about how to create a viable fantasy setting and should be a big help in fleshing out my fantasy campaign.  Moving on we have Games Workshop 'How to Make Wargames Terrain.'   This book is full of tips and tricks for terrain making as well as plenty of inspiration.  It even came with two sheets of thick card for basing or building.  Finally in the bottom right hand corner we have... well I think I am going to let you guys try to figure that one out.  Suffice to say I scored a great deal from a gentleman over on TMP and picked up the two trays of figures already painted.  Without giving anything away they may or may not eventually be making an appearance in my fantasy campaign.

  1. !!!!! I thought the D&D set was unavailable and cancelled way back in the late 80´s. It looks exactly the same (as i remember) as the original one from way back then.
Nice looking haul. The wargmes scenery book looks interesting
    Happy new year
